SIGNIS Event for the Jubilee of the World of Communication

SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communication, through its Cinema and Television Desk and with the coordination of SIGNIS Romania, launched FILMIKON in 2024, a unique festival dedicated to films awarded over the years by ecumenical juries at the most prestigious international film festivals.

More than just a film festival, FILMIKON is a cultural initiative woven into the religious program of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Its primary aim is to create a platform for dialogue on Christian and human values, using the films as a foundation for meaningful discussion and reflection.

To mark the Jubilee for the World of Communications, SIGNIS presents a remarkable event as part of FILMIKON’s second edition: a cineconcert – the screening of a silent film accompanied by live music, specifically the majestic sound of the organ.

On January 25, after the Second Vespers for the Solemnity of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle, led by Pope Francis at the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls, SIGNIS will host an artistic and ecumenical event at 8:00 PM in the splendid Basilica of the Twelve Holy Apostles in Rome. This initiative also marks the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which lies at the heart of FILMIKON festival.

The evening will feature the screening of Christus (1916), directed by Giulio Antamoro, one of the earliest cinematic portrayals of the life of Jesus Christ. The screening will be accompanied by the internationally renowned French organist Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard, the titular organist of the grand organ at Saint-Eustache Church in Paris.

The event aims to celebrate the art of cinema while offering profound reflection on the spiritual and universal values that great masterpieces of the past continue to convey, uniting faith, culture, and beauty in a unique and extraordinary experience.

Journalists from around the world attending the Jubilee for the World of Communications, taking place in the Vatican from January 24 to 26, are warmly invited to join this special initiative. The event is also open to all cinema and music enthusiasts, as well as anyone looking to be inspired by a truly memorable artistic experience. Admission is free.
