Georgian Film wins Ecumenical Prize at Cottbus 2021

November 7, 2021 (SIGNIS / INTERFILM). Brighton 4th by Levan Koguashvili from Georgia (GE/BG/MC/RU/US 2021) won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the  31st FilmFestival Cottbus.

A former Georgian wrestler travels to Brooklyn to help his son out of a gambling debt. With emotional images and precise and focused storytelling, the film shows a father’s commitment to his son in a Georgian expatriated community in New York. Brighton 4th is a powerful film about peace, respect and humanity in a society full of structural violence.

The members of the Ecumenical Jury were Françoise Wilkowski-Dehove (France), Ewa Jelinek, Ostrava (Czech Republic), Théo Péporté (Luxembourg), and Dr Josef Nagel (Germany).

The 31st FilmFestival Cottbus was held November 2-7, 2021. In addition to the 12 productions in the feature film competition, from which the Ecumenical Jury chooses its winner, the festival screened 13 films in the short film competition and 7 in the youth film competition.
