Liberation theology speaks about the importance of orthopraxis contrasted with orthodoxy: how one practices, acts on and lives out one’s faith in the real world of poverty and human suffering is a better gauge of Christian commitment than the correctness of one’s grasp of dogma. As Jesus said, “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.” In this issue, we present a lively mosaic of SIGNIS members from Port of Spain to Buenos Aires engaged in genuine orthopraxis in the region of the world that gave birth not only to a theology of liberation, but also the closely related notion of liberating education. That pedagogy forms the basis for practicing what is sometimes called educomunicación— communication that sets people free.
