September 18, 2021 (SIGNIS / INTERFILM). At the 17th Cinefest Miskolc international film festival in Hungary, the Ecumenical Jury awarded the film Apples (Greece/Poland/Slovenia, 2020), directed by Christos Nikou.
The Jury found that Apples, describing a situation that mirrors the difficult pandemic times in which we live, presents a way to deal with loss and find meaning in life. With very accurate and minimalistic visuality, the movie leads us to reflect on the healing power of loving our neighbour and living an authentic life beyond the risk of isolation that we are facing in our social media society. Furthermore, Apples opens up horizons for discussions and reflections at several levels about human relations, the complexity of every person, and the spiritual meaning of life.
The members of the Ecumenical Jury were András Petrik (Hungary), Tamás Vígh (Hungary), Piero Loredan (Italy/Romania), and Mia Lund Rao (Danemark).
The Miskolc Film Festival ran from September 10th until September 18th. For more information on the festival, please visit cinefest.hu.
