Washington DC, June 14, 2021. (SIGNIS). As every year, a SIGNIS jury awards prizes and special commentions at the International Film Festival of Washington DC (USA). This year, the SIGNIS prize is awarded to Broken Keys (Lebanon, 2020) directed by Jimmy Keyrouz.
Despite destruction, desolation and death in a once prosperous Syrian community, one man uses the power of piano music to give hope. This Lebanese film, directed by Jimmy Keyrouz, masterfully conveys the terror of daily facing senseless killing due to religious extremism, and celebrates human resilience and the power of hope.
Broken Keys was selected as the Lebanese entry for the Best International Feature for the 2021 Academy Awards, and was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival before the event was cancelled.
