Mexico City (SIGNIS ALC). Last week, SIGNIS Mexico members held their 2021 ordinary assembly and elected Beatriz Gonzalez as their new Vice President.
The assembly was held virtually due to mobility and meeting restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, about 50 active SIGNIS Mexico members located in different cities of the country could attend the assembly.
The opening Eucharist of the assembly was presided over by the priest Luis Garcia Orso SJ, Ecclesiastical Assistant of SIGNIS, who recalled the message of Pope Francis for the 55th World Communications Day and reiterated the invitation to communicators to serve “where people are, as they are, in their own reality, without exclusions… a Christian communicator must encounter all cultures”.
The President of SIGNIS Mexico, Ricardo Cruz, presented the financial and activity report of the organisation. The report included the events organised in 2020 such as the 54th World Communications Day (in 2020), the first virtual pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe, SIGNIS Mexico’s talks on training for Catholics and the creation of the virtual space called Cafe de Comunicadores Católicos.
He also shared the launch of the Ecclesia.app project aimed at giving voice to Mexican dioceses experiencing operational and economic difficulties during the pandemic and facilitating the implementation of a digital fundraising tool in collaboration with the Cristo Sacerdote Foundation and the information portal VCNoticias.com.
