(SIGNIS ALC). The Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM) and SIGNIS ALC are working on a new documentary about Sister María Agustina Rivas López, from the Good Shepherd program in La Florida, Peru.
Sister “Aguchita”, as she was known, worked mainly with the Ashaninka communities of the Perené Valley, an indigenous people deeply affected by the internal war that had only worsened from the end of the 1980s.
She was killed by members of the Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) group on September 27, 1990, along with six local villagers, who accused her of loving the poor and the indigenous peoples of Peru.
The new chapter of the documentary series will be produced by the Peruvian production company Teleandes, under the direction of the communicator and documentary filmmaker Fernando Valdivia.
The audiovisual production is expected to be released in mid-July 2021.
The documentary series “My Life for the Amazon” is promoted by REPAM and SIGNIS ALC and offers powerful videos about martyrs of the Amazon, those who died serving the peoples of the region, whom they loved to the end.
