(SIGNIS). The SIGNIS Asia Media Education Desk offered an online training programme for media education trainers over five days at the end of February.
Around seventy participants from sixteen countries attended the Training of Trainers media education programme organised by Dr Magimai Pragasam, course leader and chair of the SIGNIS Asia Media Education Desk.
Eleven SIGNIS and non-SIGNIS media education professionals led a total of fifteen one-hour sessions, touching on topics such as educommunication, critical analysis of print media, the world of advertisements, and the power of radio.
Fr. Joseph Anucha, the President of SIGNIS Asia, opened the inaugural address and emphasised the need to understand the concepts of media education and boldly share the knowledge with the digital generation. He also commended the association’s efforts to help build a strong network of media education professionals in Asia and the world.
Sr. Celine D’Cunha, a participant from India, found the programme informative, powerful, and valuable, led by competent and qualified teachers. “It was a wonderful encounter to be cherished for a lifetime. The teachers offered a soulful experience, and I am grateful to the entire team”, she said.
Upon completing the programme, participants were invited to choose mentors among the teachers to continue their learning journey through regular contacts and interaction. In addition, they received various resource materials to support their local media education programmes.
The Training of Trainers media education programme took place over the Zoom online platform from February 22 to 26, 2022. For more information, visit www.signisasia.net.
