Three years ago, in uncertainty and transformation, Radio Lío was born with a single objective: making noise, amplifying voices, and building community through words. Today, on its third anniversary, it is evident that this dream has become a reality and an essential space for widespread communication and hope.
Inspired by Pope Francis’ call to “make a mess,” this initiative has managed to consolidate itself in the corners of Latin America and the Caribbean, serving as a platform for those whose voices are often left on the periphery of the mainstream media. During these three years, Radio Lío has accumulated more than 1,200 hours on the air, gathering experiences, anecdotes, and remembrances of “Las Chispas de la Palabra,” a testimony of the communicative richness of the region.
The road has not been easy. Born in 2022, amid recovery after the global crisis caused by the pandemic, the radio faced the challenge of building a community during estrangement. However, far from being limited, this context spurred creativity and innovation. Thanks to training in Community and Citizen Radio Production and with the support of institutions such as ALER and CIESPAL, Radio Lío has become a reference for popular and participatory communication.
The third anniversary was celebrated during the Jubilee of the World of Communication in Rome. This event reaffirmed the importance of giving space to marginalized voices and continuing to build a narrative of hope. This anniversary not only marks a temporary milestone but also reaffirms Radio Lío’s mission: to continue making noise, weaving community, and bringing the word of the people to every possible corner.
Three years later, Radio Lío keeps messing up to build, breaking silences and, above all, making noise. And the best is yet to come.
