SIGNIS Secretary General Participates in Annual Vatican Meeting on Synodality

Vatican City, 11 June 2024 – Dr. Peter Rachada Monthienvichienchai, Secretary General of SIGNIS, will be among the distinguished participants at the Annual Meeting with Moderators of Associations of the Faithful, Ecclesial Movements, and New Communities. This significant event, organized by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life (DLFL), will be held on 13 June 2024 in the New Synod Hall in Vatican City.

The meeting, centered on “The Challenge of Synodality for Mission,” explores the Church’s ongoing journey of synodal consultation, reflection, and dialogue. This synodal journey seeks to fully embody the Church’s essence as a mystery of communion, reflecting the Trinitarian communion.

Dr. Peter Rachada Monthienvichienchai will join approximately 200 other participants in a collaborative discussion and reflection on synodal practices and structures that associations and movements have already implemented. These practices include faith-sharing within small groups, community discernment, and the co-responsibility of lay and ordained ministers in governance. The involvement of married couples and young people in evangelization, charitable, and social actions will also be highlighted as crucial elements of these practices.

The event will commence with a Holy Mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica, presided over by His Eminence Card. Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. Participants will attend an audience with the Holy Father, Pope Francis, following the Mass.

The day’s program will feature critical presentations by Prof. Rafael Luciani of Andrés Bello Catholic University in Venezuela, who will discuss “Mission as the Goal of Synodality,” and Dr. Elisa Lisiero, a Dicastery official, who will focus on synodality and the experiences of movements. These sessions aim to provide participants with insights into the practical applications of synodality and its challenges.

As part of the annual meeting, there will be ample opportunities to share experiences and engage in Q&A sessions. This gathering continues to be an exclusive event for the 117 international associations of the faithful, both private and public, and other entities with legal personality under the direct jurisdiction of the Dicastery.
